So, I had been introduced to the growlers in 2007 by Jeff when he was still making them in his house! I was in the market for some sub that could give me some good low end as im a dj (club and mobile) and my rig had to be enough to support crowds of 200-500 people at any function I spin at (wedding, private parties, etc….) and it had to have an impressive sound. Being the anal person that I am, my system had to be crisp and clear on the vocals, have “chest-pounding” CLEAN bass and be somewhat compact as I usually setup most gigs by myself. I play a lot of hip-hop, reggae and house hence you see the reason for my needs.

Anyway, after purchasing some double 18” subs made by Yamahas – SW218 (I think that’s the model…), I hear of JTR and the “GROWLER” and was interested to know how a 12” inch horn loaded sub was known for keeping up with bigger 18” subs. After hearing ONE growler in Jeff’s house…I was simply amazed and KNEW that I needed two more. The bass response was soooo CLEAN. It sounded like some home theater bass that kept on getin louder the more you turned it up. And it just kept on louder even when underpowered!! Needless to say, I was SOLD! I got rid of the Yamahas INSTANTLY and bought two growlers! SOUND, POWER and the COMPACT design were all the qualities I needed. And I found them in these 2 little boxes. I ran a crown XTI 4000 bridged on them crossed over @ 100Hz and the did thump pretty good but I was looking for MORE bass! So I said “F it” and decided to get 2 more growlers! I bought two qsc plx 3002 amps and bridged them as well into the 4 growlers and boy was I ROCKIN. BUT, I thought I was rockin until Jeff told me to “center cluster” them if possible and let him know what I thought. At the time I was pretty much a sound noob (still think I am..lol) so I had a gig with a big dancefloor and decided to do it! When I first turned it up low, I think my heart skipped a beat to hear the DEEP BASS coming from these 4 little boxes and my signal lights where barely blinking. When the party got going, BOY oh BOY was I happy about the investment I made in the Growler speaker! Many times I played a song a lil longer than usual to walk out to the danefloor to hear what the crowd was experiencing! I mean they threw sooo far and it could be felt in your chest! Comments I heard from the crowd were, “Man, those subs u got a THUMPIN HARD….those 18s rt??” “NOPE….12s” (I replied) hehe….Never again would I split these subs up! LOL. I then sold the PLX 3002 amps and bout a QSC PL 6.0 II and it was all she wrote for the subs on my system! A PROUD owner of JTR speakers I was!! BUT, it didn’t stop there….

After being soo damn broke after buying 4 growlers and a PL 6.0 II (but LOVING the outcome) I was using some old JBL SR 4738 speakers as my highs over the growlers! Yea, yea, yea, I know they were a 3-way speaker with an 18…wat was I thinking but hey, I had to make do with what I had. Then I get a call from Jeff tellin me he has a new speaker coming out called the triple 12. I was interested but never got around to hearing them plus I was still BROKE…lol. Come 2008, I hear about Jeff and his newly designed triple 8 speakers! I said hmmmm, those prolly cant keep up with my 4 growlers center clustered but, whatever, ill go check them out at his shop. So Jeff did a small demo with the triple 8 (even tho I wanted to hear the triple 12) and I was BLOWN away. I was really amazed at how loud they got and how they did start to break up in clarity even on a Lab Gruppen 7000 clipping!!! But being the great guy Jeff is, he let me demo the speakers at an event I had to do. The venue was a gym but I had played there several times before with my old setup of 4 growlers center clustered with the SR 4738’s serving as the highs for the night. Upon setting up my rig, immediately people were the promoter asked where the JBLs were. I told him that I was tryin something new this time and he was skeptical cause the triple 8s were so small in size. But when they came to life, all you saw was a big smile on his face! Ear to ear and he commented, “don’t tell me the same guy that made your subs makes this speaker too” I replied YES that’s him! (I guess the JTR logo gave it away…hehe) Anyway, as more people filed in, about 400-500 total, and the music got louder, I got nothing but compliments on the sound. I felt like I was a sound reinforcement guy at a show. Once again, I SMILED from ear to ear and told myself that I had to find a way to buy these from Jeff cause not only did the sound waaayyy better than the JBLs but they were also 50lbs!!! and space savers! Again, I was SOLD! My back definitely is happy with the outcome as well!! LOL. Anyway, that is my experience with JTR speakers! I know have a full system and I cant go back in any other direction! Jeff is a scientist that REALLY knows what he is doing and to me he puts the competition to rest, I mean, I even have DJ buddies asking to rent my system. To all dj’s if you are looking for a compact system that ROCKS and is pretty darn efficient….JTR Triple 8s/Growler combo is the way to go!

I also can demo for anyone that is skeptical like I was about JTR!

Btw: I think ill get another pair of growlers or 2….lol. its like a disease now!
